Girl Power: Rivers Academy Girls Tennis and Golf Teams Capture State Championships

June 23, 20253 min read

In an unforgettable display of talent, teamwork, and determination, Rivers Academy is celebrating a double victory after both its Girls Tennis and Girls Golf teams brought home GIAA AAA state championship titles this season. It’s a proud moment for the Alpharetta-based school, and even more so for the young women who have shown what’s possible when passion meets discipline.

Champions on the Court

The Girls Tennis team battled through their bracket, ultimately clinching the state title without losing a single match. Led by their head coach Jameson Bekaert, the team relied on consistent serves, sharp volleys, and strong mental focus to outmatch their competitors. Each player contributed critical points throughout the season, and their chemistry on and off the court played a key role in their success. Captain Pearly Pouatcha, a junior, led the team at line one singles and also captured the Individual State Championship title in Singles. Eighth-graders Reagan Barr, who was the singles runner-up in the Individual State Championship, and Farrah Smith also captured singles wins during the state team championship. The team championship doubles squad was led by eighth grader Reagan Poehler and ninth grader Brynlee Lindamood who, together, also won the Individual State Championship title in Doubles. Sophomore Tea Zigliarea and Junior Avery Radics also represented the Raptors in doubles.

“These girls have worked so hard all year,” said Coach Bekaert. “They’re not just skilled athletes—they’re leaders, friends, and examples of what it means to compete with class.”

Dominating the Fairway

Not to be outdone, the Girls Golf team delivered an equally impressive performance at the state championship tournament. With steady swings and cool heads, the team posted the lowest collective score, securing a commanding win over some of the toughest competition in the state.

At the 2025 GIAA Girls Golf State Championship, held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, Georgia, the Rivers Academy Girls Golf team delivered an outstanding performance to secure the state title. Kallyn Black led the charge, clinching the Low Medalist honor with an impressive score of 70, showcasing her exceptional skill and composure under pressure. The team score of 141 was rounded out with the performance of Emerson Elm, who shot a 71. Teammates Rebecca Lee (72), Emma Veil (73), Nina Porcello (74), and Annie Veil (78) all played exceptionally, demonstrating the team's depth and consistency. These remarkable performances earned the Raptors the team championship title and secured All-State honors for Black, Elm, Lee, E. Veil, and Porcello. Under the guidance of Head Coach Charles Anderson and Assistant Coach Doug Fix, the Lady Raptors exemplified teamwork and dedication, culminating in a season that will be remembered for years to come.

Empowering a New Generation of Athletes

These victories are more than trophies on a shelf—they are a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence in academics, athletics, and personal growth. Rivers Academy has long fostered an environment where student-athletes can thrive without sacrificing balance, and this year’s Girls Tennis and Golf teams are shining examples of that philosophy in action.

As the celebrations continue, these championship wins are inspiring younger students and reinforcing the belief that with heart, hustle, and teamwork—anything is possible.

Congratulations to the Rivers Academy Girls Tennis and Golf teams, the coaches, and Athletic Director Jon Ostrosky for these hard-earned victories. Girl power is alive and thriving at Rivers Academy!
